From my experience designing outdoor areas, there is one update that packs a huge punch when it comes to transforming a space, and that is turning your terrace into a charming retreat.

Many of my clients know something is missing from their outdoor area but cannot pinpoint the issue.

Today I am walking you through how to select cozy furniture and colorful accents to create a charming, resort like area.

Go Bold with Stripes

I absolutely love the idea of using big stripes in neutral tones to give your backyard a seriously upscale look. Think about creating a cohesive vibe by using the same gorgeous pattern on multiple pieces throughout the space.

Your backyard is the perfect canvas for playing with bold colors and fun patterns. The trick is to take a strong pattern and balance it out with some neutral touches.

You could add striped cushions for a pop of style or make a distinct stripe pattern the main focus of your decor.

Add a Vintage Touch

Shell-style seats were once a huge favorite, which gives them a cool vintage edge that you might want to bring into your design. Pairing them with a classic wooden table is the perfect way to get that vintage twist and add some simple flair.

There is honestly no better way to get that crisp, high-end feel than by bringing in a little vintage charm. There’s something so classic about it that just works beautifully in any area, including your outdoor spots.

Try using a traditional wood table and pairing it with a mix of vintage and modern chairs to create a stunning contrast between different trends.

Light it Up

Instead of just one light fixture, why not go for a large statement piece and then use fairy lights to surround the area? This brings such a luxurious and romantic feeling that you can feel throughout the whole backyard. I love the idea of placing a fixture right above your seating to create a beautiful focal point.

For an effortlessly lavish vibe in your outdoor decor, add some bold light fixtures that will instantly brighten everything up. I find there is something so regal about using indoor-style pieces outside in a contemporary way.

This is where chic lighting really comes in handy. You can use one statement piece or several to pull your whole design together.

Create an All-White Oasis

Keep your decor minimal, even when you want to create a space for entertaining. The key to a minimal yet luxurious area is having all your essentials without taking up too much room. A marble finish is a great way to stay in the all-white family while adding hints of unique veining.

Nothing says luxury quite like an all-white entertainment zone combined with fresh air dining and simple, elegant seating. Your goal should be to keep the area as crisp and clean as possible.

When you do this, you get a beautiful, clean palette that lets all the outdoor greenery create a calming yet bold look.

Dine in Style

Luxury dining doesn’t always have to be bold and over-the-top. Instead, it can be simple and refined while still feeling totally modern. The key is working with the atmosphere to create an ambiance that feels rich, no matter what seating you use. I love the look of a bench with a few modern seats.

No truly luxurious space is complete without an upscale outdoor dining setup. You want to design a dining area that feels almost like you are indoors but with all the airy freshness of being outside.

On top of that, you could connect your dining space to a covered pavilion to keep the whole area feeling cool and elegant.

Make the Pool the Main Event

There’s no better way to make your space feel luxurious than by making the pool area the absolute star of the show. Add some colorful and comfortable seating to ensure your pool is the main focus and to make the space a favorite spot for you and your guests.

What could be a better way to bring a luxurious vibe to your yard than to put all the focus on your pool? You could build a pavilion that surrounds the pool area.

Even better, you might want to install an in-pool bar that connects right to your main outdoor space. Add some fun chairs or a comfy sofa to bring a cozy twist where you need it most.

Play with Pops of Red

Adding pops of red to your outdoor space is always a good idea. It gives you that bold punch that your yard might be missing. Pair it with a unique light fixture and some neutrals to let the daring color make the statement it was meant to.

The color red is well known for being a luxury shade, particularly when it is used as an accent instead of the main color.

Team up your pops of red with darker furniture, which will allow the brightness of the hue to create that elevated, luxurious feeling it is supposed to.

You could even add a Moroccan-inspired swing to take the whole decor to another level.

Keep it Simply Chic

Add a fireplace to really push the idea of having a chic space that is both beautiful and simple. The simplicity of your decor is what will make the area feel so put together, all while keeping that seamless charm and feel.

I am a huge fan of bringing a classic indoor feeling right into the outdoors. It not only elevates the whole area but gives it a polished look.

For that extra luxurious twist, try using simple seating but then mix in bits of chic, modern furniture. On top of that, you could bring in some bench seating or even a few stools.

Create a Fireplace Centerpiece

Why have a cozy indoor feeling only inside when you can have the same vibe outdoors? Bring a stylish, luxurious feel to your backyard with a fireplace and outdoor kitchen combo. You could even add a seating area with an outdoor TV to create a true outdoor living room.

An outdoor fireplace is one of the first things you often see in a luxurious backyard space. It instantly makes the area a favorite spot in the house, since it gives you the versatility to sit outside during both the warmer and cooler months.

Pair your fireplace with a simple design to let it really become the main focus of the space.
