Choosing a color palette for a powder room makeover can be overwhelming. Where to start, right?! I can’t tell you how many people feel like they have to play it safe.

But the powder room is the one spot in your home where you can really get creative! It’s the perfect place to make a statement, and I’ve got some gorgeous ideas to show you how.

Moody and Dramatic Black

I know a lot of people get nervous about using black, but stick with me here because it is so misunderstood!

If you have the right lighting and decorating approach, black can create the most glamorous powder room that will leave your guests completely dazzled.

I am obsessed with pairing it with gold accents and fixtures in the same finish. That combination feels so right in these captivating little rooms.

Sunny Yellow Vibes

Sometimes red can feel a bit too heavy, blue might seem too casual, and green can come off as rigid. This is where sunny yellow comes to the rescue!

It strikes a perfect balance between cheerful energy and modern style. I love how powder rooms with big splashes of yellow feel so much brighter than they actually are.

White is my favorite partner for yellow here, but you could also try out a black and yellow mix for a more masculine feel.

Playful Stripes

Okay, so technically this isn’t a single color, but hear me out! Colorful stripes are a fantastic choice if you just can’t commit to one hue in the powder room.

I love that stripes do more than just bring pattern and color to the room. They can also create a sense of spaciousness and add a hint of playful charm. It’s such a fun way to liven up the walls!

Charming Pinks

Pink is a less common choice that people often think of as feminine, but I think it can look so good in a gender-neutral powder room too.

The trendy choice right now is hot pink, which can look incredibly glamorous when you get it right.

I’ve found that deeper pinks with a matte finish don’t always fit well with a contemporary style. For fixtures, both white and black look great alongside pink in this tiny space.

Rich and Dashing Red

Let’s start with a color that makes the biggest visual impact and leaves a lasting impression. I just love red! You can create a monochromatic red backdrop in the powder room with either paint or wallpaper.

One gives you a sophisticated, solid look, while the other brings in a pattern that really shakes things up. When it comes to the sink, vanity, and other bathroom fittings, I think black is such a good choice in here.

A Mix of Colors

Are you not happy with just one bold color in the powder room? You can combine blocks of two or three different bright colors. This can create a backdrop that is so artistic and eye-catching!

My tip is to choose colors that complement one another and then give it an unexpected twist. Maybe even throw a dash of pattern into the mix as well.

Using multiple colors on the wall, along with stripes, brings a certain artistic appeal to this minimal bathroom.

Zesty Orange

There are only a few colors beyond red that can lift the mood in a room quite like orange at its snazzy best! I always advise homeowners to go for a shade of orange in a matte finish.

This helps it not feel far too overwhelming. Colors like burnt orange are perfect for a contemporary powder room.

If you want to cut back on the brightness, just amp up the white in there to turn down the orange zest.

Going Green

For some reason, even though we are surrounded by green outside, we can be a little reluctant to use it as often as blue. But you can start by trying it out in the powder room!

I’ve generally found that lighter shades of green are far more appealing and accepted in this space than the darker ones are.

A little golden glitter from the metallic vanity base and fixtures makes such a big difference in this powder room.

Regal Purple

If you want to move away from the usual array of colors, purples and violets can bring something different to the small powder room. These colors are bright and usher in a sense of richness.

Plus, you get a backdrop that does not make the room feel any darker. I think black and gold are the two colors that look best with purple, but for contemporary spaces, white is also a really smart choice.

Purple always makes an impact no matter where you use it!

Beautiful Blues

Blue is such a popular color, no matter which room you use it in. I think bright shades of blue are just perfect for a contemporary powder room.

If you find yourself getting bored with the usual navy and dark blues, you should try out colors like turquoise and teal instead. This is a color that never disappoints and it also gives the powder room a more spacious visual feel.

White is the natural complementary color in here, which makes that an easy choice to make!
