7 Practical Ways to Use Corners in a Kids’ Room

I have to admit that I have been frustrated with my son’s playroom for quite some time. It seemed that no matter how much I organized, the toys always ended up in a jumble on the floor with no real home.

I had struggled with what would not only look beautiful but also be practical for a growing kid. It wasn’t until I was staring at a pile of blocks in an empty corner that I realized I was overlooking the most valuable space in the room.

This discovery was the perfect solution to my clutter problem.

1. A Fun Play Zone

Don’t have a whole separate room you can dedicate to playtime? No problem at all! For those of us without a dedicated playroom, you can always turn a bedroom corner into an incredible play area.

I love that it can have anything from a climbing wall and a swing to just a simple mat. Even a little table and a couple of chairs for a pretend tea party can make the space feel so special!

2. A Quiet Homework Nook

When you’re designing a kid’s room, it isn’t just about fun and games. Sometimes, our little ones have to get some serious work done! As they get bigger, the time they spend on homework definitely starts to take up more of their day.

A corner homework station is a genius space-saving idea that makes even the smallest bedrooms feel roomy. It also gives your kid a quiet and productive spot to focus.

3. Clever Corner Beds

Have you seen the trend of twin corner beds? It’s so popular right now and is popping up in guest rooms and bedrooms everywhere. This is another amazing space-saver for shared kids’ rooms.

When the beds are tucked neatly into the corner, the rest of the room feels so much more open and bright. There are a few different ways you can go with this, from two beds arranged along the walls to classic bunk beds.

And of course, a single bed in the corner is always a great option.

4. Cozy Corner Seating

I’ve seen the corner bench trend in just about every room lately, and I absolutely think it can work in a kid’s bedroom, too. A huge plus is that you can use the space under the bench for custom cabinets.

These are perfect for hiding away toys and extra pillows. If you can pair this cozy bench with a corner window, it’s a total showstopper. But even on its own, a plush bench is such a smart choice.

5. Smart Storage Space

The corner in a kid’s room is such a great spot to add extra shelving, and there are so many options depending on what you’re looking for. A custom corner wardrobe is a fantastic place to start. It saves a ton of space and keeps the other walls in the bedroom free.

A few floating shelves on either side of the wardrobe can give you even more storage and display space. From standalone units to custom DIY projects that turn a small corner into a useful closet, your choice really depends on the space, your budget, and what your little one dreams of.

6. A Star is Born!

A home stage doesn’t have to be super fancy. The small corner in a bedroom or playroom can easily host a fun stage that lets your little one be the star of their own performance! You definitely don’t have to spend a lot for one of these.

With some good lighting, a few drapes, and a slightly raised platform, a corner stage can be created in no time at all.

7. A Sweet Reading Nook

One of my all-time favorite ways to use a corner in a kid’s room is to turn it into a dreamy reading nook. This is definitely different from a cozy nook in the living room or an adult bedroom.

You really don’t need a fireplace or a fancy chair. Just some shelves for books and a couple of throw pillows can get the job done.

You could even use a beanbag or some big floor mats. Leaving the rest of the space open gives your child a chance to decorate it in their own creative way.
