15 Dreamy Attic Rooms You’ll Instantly Fall in Love With

Whether you’re looking at an empty attic or just updating your home, it’s always a challenge to figure out where to start. The number one question I get is how to take a space from dusty storage to a dreamy retreat.
Today, I wanted to touch on some easy ideas that take the guesswork out of transforming that space and give you the best starting point for your own project.
Lean into the Architecture
Because of the inherent structure attics have, it’s actually pretty easy to let the room’s design evolve naturally. Making the existing architecture the main focus is one of the best ways to keep the room feeling organic.
I think it’s a great idea to play up the high ceilings and create an even loftier feel with a structure that is already so tall and open.
Add a Private Bathroom
If you find yourself with some extra space and haven’t quite figured out what to do with it, adding a bathroom is never a bad choice. An additional bathroom is always useful!
I love the idea of creating a spa-like retreat and making this bathroom feel just like that. It can be a quiet room where you can just sit and relax anytime you need a minute or two for yourself.
Skip the Headboard
Let’s talk about headboards for a minute. We’re conditioned to think every bed needs one, but I love the idea of not adding one to your attic bed. It’s a fantastic way to make the ceiling look and feel taller.
Keep the bed on the floor and use as little decor as you can get away with. The whole point is to keep the room feeling minimal yet still grand and totally comfortable.
Unleash Your Creativity
Last up, get creative! I love this idea because it allows the room to feel so put together but with an incredibly personal touch.
The best part is that you can effortlessly infuse your own decorating style and truly make it your own when you’re in that specific space. It becomes a reflection of you.
Design a Writing Nook
If you’re a lover of all things words or a natural writer, having a space that is completely dedicated to your work could be the exact thing you need.
Just add a simple desk with a ton of lighting and a comfortable chair to really get your creative juices flowing. It makes such a big impact.
A Mini Apartment?
If you happen to have a decent-sized attic, why not think about transforming it into a little apartment?
You can make your guests feel right at home with a smaller space that offers everything they could need, from a bathroom to even a small kitchen. The whole point is to have a cozy room that feels almost like their own home.
Create a Guest Room
An extra room can always be useful, especially if you have guests in your home on a regular basis. You can add two or more twin beds depending on the size of the room and create a really neat asymmetrical space with a hint of comfort and beauty.
I would keep the colors airy and fresh for a minimal appeal that just makes sense for the room.
Make it Cozy
The attic is just one of those rooms that really lends itself to being a sort of “napping oasis.” With that in mind, I would add as many cozy features as you possibly can fit.
On top of that, consider adding a sofa bed with plenty of blankets and throw pillows to complete the vibe.
Use Every Nook
So many attics have multiple nooks in them naturally. That being said, you should take advantage of every nook and cranny to create something a little different.
Whether that becomes a reading space or even a smaller retreat, using those spots in general will allow you to really make the room come to life.
Bring on the Game Room
Depending on how big your attic is, you might want to consider installing a game room. I think game rooms are always such a nice treat to have in your home.
They give you a wonderful space to enjoy with friends while having all the fun adult toys you can now use in your own house.
